53:10-12 Come, and see how Christ loved us! We could not put him in our stead, but he put himself. Thus he took away the sin of the world, by taking it on himself. He made himself subject to death, which to us is the wages of sin. Observe the graces and glories of his state of exaltation. Christ will not commit the care of his family to any other. God's purposes shall take effect. And whatever is undertaken according to God's pleasure shall prosper. He shall see it accomplished in the conversion and salvation of sinners. There are many whom Christ justifies, even as many as he gave his life a ransom for. By faith we are justified; thus God is most glorified, free grace most advanced, self most abased, and our happiness secured. We must know him, and believe in him, as one that bore our sins, and saved us from sinking under the load, by taking it upon himself. Sin and Satan, death and hell, the world and the flesh, are the strong foes he has vanquished. What God designed for the Redeemer he shall certainly possess. 6:11-20 The hope here meant, is a sure looking for good things promised, through those promises, with love, desire, and valuing of them. Hope has its degrees, as faith also. The promise of blessedness God has made to believers, is from God's eternal purpose, settled between the eternal Father, Son, and Spirit. These promises of God may safely be depended upon; for here we have two things which cannot change, the counsel and the oath of God, in which it is not possible for God to lie; it would be contrary to his nature as well as to his will. And as He cannot lie; the destruction of the unbeliever, and the salvation of the believer, are alike certain. Here observe, those to whom God has given full security of happiness, have a title to the promises by inheritance. The consolations of God are strong enough to support his people under their heaviest trials. Here is a refuge for all sinners who flee to the mercy of God, through the redemption of Christ, according to the covenant of grace, laying aside all other confidences. We are in this world as a ship at sea, tossed up and down, and in danger of being cast away. We need an anchor to keep us sure and steady. Gospel hope is our anchor in the storms of this world. It is sure and stedfast, or it could not keep us so. The free grace of God, the merits and mediation of Christ, and the powerful influences of his Spirit, are the grounds of this hope, and so it is a stedfast hope. Christ is the object and ground of the believer's hope. Let us therefore set our affections on things above, and wait patiently for his appearance, when we shall certainly appear with him in glory.

God's Solution to the Sin Problem

Sin stands in the way of having the satisfying relationship with God that He meant for you to have. The Bible uses several words to describe what has broken off our relationship with God. Sometimes, for example, the Bible talks about "transgressions". Those are the times when we overstep God's moral boundaries and, as it were, put our foot into His moral "no trespassing" zones. The Bible tells us that the "transgression" of our first parents Adam and Eve, while in the Garden of Eden, has had a devastation effect on all their offspring. "Through one transgression there resulted condemnation to all men ..." (Romans 5:18). ...God has removed the barrier caused by our sin... ...by placing the guilt for sin on His Son, Jesus Christ. Not only is God holy, but He's also merciful. Out of pure love and mercy, because of our helpless situation, God has sent His own Son Jesus to be born into the human race -- the only Member of the human race that has never sinned -- so that He might take the guilt of our sins on Himself and pay the "death penalty" for us on the cross as the second "Adam". His death sets us free from our debt, and makes it possible for us to have a satisfying relationship with His Father. The gross, earthly mind cannot see the pure, sublime truths of the gospel, but views everything from a worldling's standpoint. The world comes in between the soul and heaven. His eyes are blinded by the "god of this world," [2 Corinthians 4:4] so that he cannot discern or appreciate the value of eternal things. In order to serve God, we must find time for calm reflection and serious thought. Spiritual things are spiritually discerned; but when the eye is evil, the whole body is full of darkness. ********************************************************** "Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. Ezekiel 18 If there is one thing that a preacher must do, it is to help people understand that they are responsible for their own actions. It is easy to blame a spouse or a job and claim that their presence is a hinderance or stumbling block. Many times people seek to justify themselves by claiming that sinning is just a part of their nature. While in all actuality it should be just the opposite. If everything we do or say has to be credited to nature, we should argue that it is our nature to do right, considering that we were created in the image of God. The truth remains, that man is a free moral agent and has been created with the power of choice. And people will never correct their mistakes as long as they continue to blame others for their own sinful actions.... The apostle Paul put it rather aptly, "For we must all appear before the judgement seat of Christ: that everyone may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad" (2Corinthians 5:10).... Every man is responsible for his own actions. We cannot blame our parents for our sins nor can we blame inheritance or God.
